Listen & Learn Course Format:

  1. Purchase the course. A link to course materials (quiz and evaluation links & PDF of the quizes) will be emailed to you shortly.
  2. Listen to the podcasts. An ad-free version of each of the shows for the CEU program will be linked in the course materials, or you can also listen on any podcast streamer. A spotify playlist of all the episodes is available here!
  3. Pass a quiz online (it is split into three sections; must pass with an 80% or higher). Quiz may be taken 3 times. If not passed after 3 attempts, CEU credit will not be awarded, per NSGC guidelines.
  4. Complete the course evaluation.
  5. Your official CEU certificate will be issued in your NSGC portal by the end of the following month. The last day to finish a course (pass the quiz & complete the eval) is December 1, 2026 if you want your CEU certificate issued by NSGC in 2026. We are no longer offering expedited certificates.

General Description:

Explore the world of rare diseases through the lens of real-world genetics with this 10.3-hour audio podcast-based learning activity. Participants will listen to three of Gene Pool Media’s podcasts including DNA Today, All Access DNA, and DNA Dialogues. Each podcast has a curated list of episodes to form a module. These episodes highlight the latest research, patient stories, and clinical insights into rare genetic disorders. After listening to the episodes in each module, learners will complete a quiz designed to reinforce key concepts, including gene function, clinical features, inheritance patterns, molecular mechanisms, laboratory markers, and interventions. Successful completion of the quiz allows participants to earn continuing education credits (CEUs). This innovative, self-paced, hands-free format allows learners to integrate cutting-edge genetics knowledge into their practice while earning CEUs through engaging, story-driven content.

Meet Your Hosts

Kira Dineen, MS, LCGC, CG(ASCP)CM (she/her) is a multi-award winning podcaster with over 15 years of experience producing and hosting. She is the Founder and CEO of Gene Pool Media, the science podcast network housing 10+ shows including her own DNA Today. Since its launch in 2012, DNA Today has produced over 380 episodes and is backed by 90 sponsors, establishing itself as a leading resource in genetics. Kira is also the host of AbbVie pharmaceuticals’s first podcast The Persistence Lab.She teaches courses at Bay Path University’s Masters in Genetic Counseling program. Kira is also a certified licensed genetic counselor and certified cytogenetic technologist. 

Kate Wilson, MS CGC (she/her) is a podcaster, educator, and genetic counselor with 20 years of experience in the field. She is the Host and Executive Producer of All Access DNA, an interview podcast that breaks down genetic healthcare for the general public. Kate is also the Executive Producer of the DNA Dialogues Podcast, the official podcast of the Journal of Genetic Counseling. Prior to podcasting, Kate was the Product Director of Solid Tumor at Quest Diagnostics and oversaw implementation and enhancements to a portfolio that provided clinicians with insights to treat and reduce recurrence of cancer. She is a former Secretary/Treasurer of the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Currently, Kate is an adjunct faculty member at Emory University where she is a course coordinator for the Genetic Counseling Training Program.

This event has been submitted to the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) for approval of Category 1 CEUs. The American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accepts CEUs approved by NSGC for purposes of recertification. Approval for the requested CEUs and Contact Hours is currently pending.
